Some updates

So we have some huge news and I know you guys are also waiting for the promised Prelude coilover write up.  Which is coming soon I promise! We just have to nudge Brad a little to get the write up done. ::NUDGE:: ::NUDGE::

We have both been super busy lately with me graduating college and both of us working we have very little time but we do have some important news!

We got not 1 but TWO d16y7 with S40 transmissions for 150 Dollars!!!!!!!  This is huge for us. We are going to do a classic mini me build for now. The first order of business is to find a d16z6 head and intake mani combo or a d16y8 combo. Then im really thinking about getting a rebuild kit and going for a little oversized on the rebuild kit.  Then go shopping for the basic bolt ons to get the motor and shoot for 130 wheel horsepower for now.  Which 130 horsepower doesnt seem like much but in a fully stripped car which might weigh 1,900lbs is going to be hella fun!

So I figured I would show you some updated pictures of the car.
So far we have stripped the car, gotten the old motor ready for uninstillation, and done some small things like test fitted an el cheapo bike rack.  We are also in the proccess of painting the hood.

The reason I havent gotten much done lately!
Interior Stripped!!
How she sits right now!
Stickers and roof rack adds atleast 10hp!
New emblems for the car!
Almost ready for a new heart!

New stuff!!

So we finally got the new sidemarkers in!We also have the manual clutch assembly, clutch cable, and shift linkage headed this way.

Also some things left for us to grab:
  • MOTOR!!
  • 88-91 CRX Si Tranny
  • P28 ECU
  • Radiator
  • Axles
  • Radiator Hoses
  • Battery
  • Manual Gauge Cluster
  • Intake
  • Header
  • Some sort of exhaust
This will be enough to get the car functional and where we want to be after that the plan will look a little something like this:

  • Wheels/Tires
  • Suspension
  • Interior
  • Paint
So all of this looks expensive but with Brad working construction and me working at Autozone we should be able to make some real good progress this summer!

Also be on the lookout for a DIY on installing coilovers for the Prelude coming very very soon!

Finally some progress!

Well we have finally made some headway! Tonight we were able to track down several things:

A) A manual clutch assembly
B) Clutch Cable
C) JDM Sidemarkers

No the sidemarkers weren't exactly mission critical at this point but they look so sick!!!!

Change of Plans..............

And so as we delved deeper into the actual process of putting the H22A4 into our little wagon, the cost began to rise tremendously.  As this is our project car, we are also very poor college students who would like to put together an all-round car instead of throwing major amounts of money to squeeze in a big engine.

After 2 days of contemplation Brock and I have decided to, in order to offset high costs, buy and drop in a JDM D15b motor. Here are some quick specs with the stock motor:

JDM D15b

Horsepower
130ps @ 6800 rpm (128.22 hp)

Torque
14.1 kg m @ 5200 rpm (101.74 ft lbs)

Fuel Mileage
38 miles/gal (in mode 10 driving? daily driving i guess)
55 miles/gal if you drive 38 mph all day

This motor is only going to cost us $650 dollars.  We will also have to buy an L3 si transmission which will probably run around $300.  We also have some basic maintenance costs to help keep the rest of the car updated.  Hopefully, our low cost plan will enable us to spend money in other places such as wheels, suspension, brakes, exterior, and interior......AND FUTURE ENGINE MODS SUCH AS ITB'S OR TURBO.  Our overall plan for the car is to use it as an autocross car.  We are now super excited about our new plan!

Day 1

Yesterday, May 10, 2011 was the first day me and brock were able to start doing anything to our EF wagon.  We decided the first thing we wanted to do was take off all the black trim pieces: front bumper, side skirts, mud flaps, rear bumper, and the side flashings.  All these pieces need to be thoroughly cleaned and shined up.  We only got the front bumper and mudflaps off last night as well as removed the headlights.  Today we plan to finish removing the black trim, clean it up, and start to clean out the interior.  We will post pictures later tonight after we have more done.

We were also delighted to find out that the wagon will fit into Brock's small under-house garage with 6 inches to spare!!!!! This means the wagon will have a nice dry place to stay during its long and arduous journey to excellence.

Well its finally here!

Well we finally picked the car up. First impressions; rough. But you cant have overly high expectations for a car you paid $350.  My mind also started to race when I saw it.  Where to start? Wash the car, strip the interior, pull the motor, clean the car top to very bottom, paint the wheels for the hell of it. As you can see the possibilities are endless.  Im excited to say the least but only time will tell how this build will turn out.
